Young Apprentice Success

This year’s VQ Awards had a record number of applications in both the Young and Adult Apprentice of the Year Categories. The event held on Wednesday 5th June at the Victoria Theatre was attended by nominees, their frienmds and families, employers and Calderdale Training staff. The shortlisting committee had such a difficult job in choosing an apprentice of the year that for the first time a runner-up was also named.

The 2013 runner-up in the young apprentice category was Brogan Gornall, nominated by her employer for her dedication to both her work and her studies.

The winner, Lee Broadbent, demonstrated a thirst for knowledge and enthusiasm for his studies. In addition to his Business Admin NVQ he has attended a large number of other training courses connected to his apprenticeship. His employer, Calderdale Council, praises his enthusiasm and dedication to his job whilst always being modest and professional. A great example of a young Apprentice.

His manager Martin Allingham says about Lee “The apprenticeship has had a big impact and has set Lee some very clear goals for the future. He has been accepted onto a permanent position and a career progression within the Council and is being supported to study for the IOSH Diploma, which will give him the equivalent of a University Degree. He will then be eligible to apply for jobs as a professional safety officer and will find himself as one of the youngest members of the profession!

He adds “He works well to deadlines, he prioritises the work he has been given and never gets flustered or stressed. He is a great asset to our small team.“

Well done to Lee and all the other young apprentices nominated for a VQ Award.
